@Garyvee, THANK YOU.

I watched a video today of Gary Vaynerchuck giving a keynote presentation about his success in business and social media. Every time I tune in to something he does, I get excited about doing what I do. There’s no denying how inspirational he is. And that got me thinking, ‘How inspirational IS he?’ It occurred to me that he is empowering people he connects with to do what they desire most: To be passionate about their work and thrive through their passion. I wish there was a way to track the connections he is making and the people who are going out and doing what they want because of him.

I know this is starting to sound like a bit of a suck-up, but lets be clear. He is communicating in a way that few people are capable of. He may be playing a small role in the lives of others if you look at the whole spectrum of that life and in turn the short amout of contact he has with them. But I think he is capable of BIG impact for people who are listening.

He talks about the low-hanging fruit that is becoming available for niche interests. I’m experiencing that first hand with #DesignChat. I can clearly see that he is on to something and I hope that more people tune in and start to be passionate about their interests. One can only imagine how many jobs will be created that way, and what a perfect time for that to happen. I think we are witnessing the re-birth of the American dream and a resurgence in entrepreneurship.

I think design will raise its game during this period. Programs like SVA’s Design as Author give me hope that the design profession will make a surge in the public eye during the next decade. As more design students trickle in to the professional stages of their career they will only know of a world where it is common for anyone to publish anything, and that is AWESOME.
